This quarter I decided to read The Hidden Oracle as my independent reading book. I chose this book because it was a continuation to the Percy Jackson series and the first on its own set, so I really was looking forward to reading it. While reading it I remembered all the feelings I went through when I read the last book, the thoughts I had and that little details that had been forgotten but make the story's plot a bit more interesting. The story is set at Camp Half-Blood at New York City, where the ex-god Apollo is dropped by his father being mortal as a punishment from his father. Apollo follows the city until he encounters a demigod called Meg, who claims his services and follows him to Camp Half-Blood, where the demigods hide from monsters. He looks for a prophecy, but he isn't able to find an oracle that can help. He discovers that in the woods of Camp Half-Blood there is an ancient oracle called the Grove of Dodona which was planted by his grandmother, Rea. He tries to get to it while trying to solve the mystery of why demigods keep disappearing from camp, and it all leads him to the woods. He fights all kinds of monsters with meg at his side and he tries to get to the oracle in order to find a prophecy that can tell him what to do. After getting to the grove and saving the disappeared demigods he is betrayed by Meg and is left hertbroken.
The Hidden Oracle is a very awesome book that I would encourage everyone to read. The books is totally worth reading, with Rick Riordan's description and his way to make you connect to the characters. With a lot of action and constant prophecies that leave you at suspense the author keeps you in a cycle of cliffhangers and climaxes, making you feel good along reading the story. Aside from this, the author used ancient themes to create a young adult novel that is completely interesting, which is quite a success I must add. I would personally give and highly recommend this book to my cousin Maria Jose, who lives in Bogota and loves to read just like I do. She and I used to read a lot together, and now it is my turn to tell her to read. I also fully recommend this book to people that like young adult fiction, as this book is one I highly recommend.
